This is probably one of the most important post I’ll write. I wrote about Jamie Walton and The Wayne Foundation in the post about the podcast.  Her story is extremely inspiring and I can’t do it justice so I’ll just let her. If you go here you can listen to the last two podcast on the SMinterview page and hear her story. You really should listen to it because it is amazing, and heart breaking. It’s not all sad the 2nd podcast is more uplifting.

So spiderfriends I’ve seen 3 of the four super hero movies that come out this summer. The first two extremely enjoyable with one of them being a huge surprise and the third one being a minor disappointment.

Thor was a good flick it was fun, enjoyable and not dumbed down for the kids. I and my nephew both enjoyed it quit a bit. It was your basic superhero movie. Kat Dennings was great in it and they didn’t over use her even tho she was only there for comedic relief. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston were great as Thor and Loki. I do wish the Warriors Three were used more but it is a Thor movie and not a movie about them.

The movie that surprised me the most is X-men First Class. Because of the previous 3 X-men movies I did not have high hopes for this one. In fact the only reason I went to go see it is because Avary wanted to see it. It was amazing. If I would have seen it before hand I wouldn’t have brought Avary to it because a decent portion of it is in German and Russian, but he still enjoyed it.  James McAvoy who played Charles Xavier and Michael Fassbender who played Magneto were amazing. It was such a character driven story and they take such care of the characters that you forget about the 3 previous X-movies.  The affects are great and it was good to see Banshee. I was also pleased that they started with Beast before the experiment went south. Seeing as he is the only one in the movie who was in Xaviers first class it was nice to see that he was handled well. Avary and I both really enjoyed this movie, even tho there wasn’t much action it was an extremely great superhero movie.

As far as the Green Lantern it was a decent pop corn flick. It was dumbed down some for the kids and there was more drama than there needed to be. When your power is a ring that can bring anything you can imagine to life you need to do more than a race track, gun, and two planes. You can see what they were trying to do but it didn’t work. I was pretty disappointed in it but Avary really liked it. A friend of mine made a great point that Ryan Reynolds would have played Kyle Rayner better than Hal Jordan. Seeing as Kyle was more of a joker and that’s what Reynolds plays best. Also the villain was a bad choice maybe if they chose The Manhunters or had Sinestro go evil in it, instead of hinting at it in the end.

So all that leaves is Captain America : The First Avenger. I am really looking forward to this one. It has a Rocketeer feel to it that I’m really liking. Plus there is this amazing poster that Paolo Rivera made! This poster REALLY does it for me. I love it, and now I’m even more excited to see it. This advertisement definitely worked!

A true outlaw finds the balance between the passion in his heart and the reason in his mind. The outcome is the balance of might and right.

I was thinking about writing about Buffy or Angel but since those shows have both ended and have several seasons, I figured I write about something still on and relatively  new so that it won’t take long to catch up. I decided to go with Sons of Anarchy.  I feel like recently the shows that are on TV have been a lot better than the movies that have been put out.

Sons of Anarchy (SOA) is about an outlaw biker gang called Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original or Samcro and its members.  The Sons are outlaws but they have a some what good heart. In one episode a Carny rapes a young girl and the cops have nothing to go on so The Sons take it in to their own hands. There is a dozen or so other gangs in the area that they have issues with. The Sons are gun runners, they don’t let drugs in to their town of Charming, and they try to keep the violence on the outskirts.  They have the sheriff and a few other officers on the payroll.

The main character is Jax who found a draft of his dead fathers book. His father didn’t like the way the club was going and want/knew that it had to change for them to survive.  He has to decide whether to try to have make the club run a little closer to the law like his father wanted or to keep it the outlaw way like his stepfather Clay is running, all while dealing with being a new dad.

Ron Perlmen plays Clay, the leader of Samcro and Jax’s stepfather. If you have seen Hellboy or anything else Ron is in you know he is an amazing actor and that alone should help in you decision to watch this. He has to make some extremely tough decisions.

Kathy Sagal plays Gemma, Jax’s mom. She is amazingly tough and a pretty big part of the show. One thing that is great about this show is that unlike mob movies or shows like The Sopranos is that the women are part of the gangs. There are times that Gemma has to get her hands dirty to get the job done. She doesn’t pretend to not know whats going on.  Another great thing about this show is how female friendly it is. The female characters have such great and strong voices in the show. I didn’t think my mom would like show because well lets face it this doesn’t sound like a show a mom would like but the writing is go and the women are so strong she really enjoys the show and ranks it as her second favorite right under Mad Men.

This isn’t a show just about badass bikers.  It’s a show about a large extended dysfunctional family. The show is full of great actors some of which I’ve only seen in one or two if other parts, and then a few I’ve never seen before. The writing is great and it should be, as it is basically Hamlet with bikes. The creator also has spent time in a club and still has friends in clubs so the show is believable and realistic.

It is rated TV-MA so it’s not for everyone but it is amazing and I highly suggest watching the first few episodes.  Seasons 1 & 2 are on DVD and on netflix instant watch with season 3 coming to DVD soon.

Honestly this is one of my favorite dramas on tv today its right up there with Dexter (what can I say I love an Anti-Hero). I had a good friend move back up here from the cities recently and I’m gonna start watching it with her soon as well.  If i had to pick 3 shows that are on tv that people should watch it’s Doctor Who, Sons of Anarchy, and Walking Dead (which I’ll be writing about the first season soon.). And I think that all 3 shows kind of float under most peoples radars.
